After Iran attacked a U.S. military base in Qatar with missiles, in response to America bombing its nuclear sites, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire." However, the possibility of a ceasefire was still unclear after Iran fired more missiles at Israel, which happened after the first deadline for the proposal.
As the sun came up, Iranian attacks forced Israelis into bomb shelters, leading to at least four deaths and eight injuries, according to Israel's Magen David Adom rescue services. Israel has not yet officially responded to Trump's proposal, which seems to give them more time to potentially strike back. However, Iranian state television announced that a complete ceasefire had started at 7:30 a.m. local time.
In Beersheba, emergency teams stated they had recovered four bodies from one building and were still looking for more. The streets near where the impact occurred were covered in broken glass and debris, and windows were blown out of buildings as worried residents stood outside their damaged homes. Three people were rescued from nearby buildings.
The largest city in southern Israel was directly hit only a few days after its main hospital was significantly damaged by a missile strike.
After Iran attacked a U.S. military base in Qatar with missiles, in response to American attacks on its nuclear sites, President Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire." Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi stated that Iran would stop its attacks if Israel stopped theirs by 4 a.m. Tehran time. However, the Israeli military later reported that Iran had launched missiles towards Israel about an hour after that time.
After Iran's limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, reportedly in response to American bombings of its nuclear sites, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire." However, the possibility of a ceasefire became uncertain when Iran launched more missiles towards Israel, and one missile hit a building in Beersheba where Israeli firefighters found four bodies.
Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a 'complete and total ceasefire.' This statement came shortly after Iran launched a limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, in retaliation for America bombing its nuclear sites. However, Israel has not confirmed Trump's ceasefire announcement.
Trump announced on Truth Social that the ceasefire, which was set to begin around midnight Washington time, would officially end the war.
An hour after the temporary ceasefire began, which required Iran to stop its attacks, Trump posted: "THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!"
Israel did not immediately confirm a ceasefire, but no Israeli attacks were reported in Iran after 4 a.m. Tehran time. Before this, there had been heavy Israeli bombardments in Iranian cities. In past conflicts, Israel has often increased its attacks just before ceasefires began.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on X that there is no agreement yet for a ceasefire or to stop military actions. However, he stated that if the Israeli government stops its illegal attacks against the Iranian people by 4 AM Tehran time, Iran will not continue its response after that.
The message was sent out at 4:16 a.m. Tehran time, and Araghchi added: "The final decision about stopping our military actions will be made later."
The Israeli military has not commented on Trump's ceasefire announcement, and Benjamin Netanyahu's office has not yet replied to requests for comment on the issue.
The conflict has resulted in at least 24 deaths and over 1,000 injuries in Israel. Additionally, Israeli attacks in Iran have reportedly caused at least 974 deaths and 3,458 injuries, according to the Washington-based Human Rights Activists group.
The organization, which has given exact numbers for people hurt or killed in Iranian unrest, like the protests after Mahsa Amini died in 2022, stated that out of those who died, 387 were ordinary citizens and 268 were members of the security forces.
Over the weekend, a State Department official stated that the U.S. has helped about 250 American citizens and their close family members leave Israel. These evacuations were carried out using government, military, and chartered planes. It is estimated that around 700,000 American citizens are currently in Israel, with most of them also holding Israeli citizenship.
