After President Javier Milei suspended Argentina's federal agency (DADSE), which used to provide expensive medications for cancer patients, a private Facebook network has appeared. This network connects people who have extra drugs with those who need them. Milei's strict economic policies have greatly affected Argentina's public health system. The healthcare budget was cut by 48%, thousands of Health Ministry employees were fired, and programs for early cancer detection and vaccinations were stopped. This situation has caused big price increases for prescription medicines and private health plans, going up by 250% and 118% respectively. Also, medical coverage for retired people has been much reduced. The lack of healthcare for everyone and the rising costs are making Argentina's healthcare system more like the U.S. model. Milei's staff cuts have made it difficult to plan vaccinations and collect data, happening at the same time as the country's first measles outbreak in many years. These cuts have also led to a sharp increase in sexually transmitted infections, with HIV cases going up by 20% and syphilis cases by 50%. Sadly, more than 60 cancer patients have reportedly died because the DADSE medication program was stopped, and over 1,500 patients are still waiting for their necessary drugs.
