After President Javier Milei stopped Argentina's federal agency (DADSE) from providing expensive medications for cancer patients, a secret Facebook group has appeared. This group connects people who have extra medicine with those who need it. Milei's strict budget cuts have significantly affected Argentina's public health system. The healthcare budget was cut by 48%, thousands of Health Ministry employees were fired, and programs for early cancer detection and vaccinations were stopped. This crisis has led to big price increases for prescription medicine and private health plans, and medical coverage for retired people has been greatly reduced. Because not everyone has health coverage and costs are increasing, Argentina's healthcare system is becoming more like the U.S. model. Milei's staff cuts have also made it difficult to plan vaccinations and collect data, which happened at the same time as the country's first measles outbreak in decades. These cuts have also caused a rise in sexually transmitted infections, including a 20% increase in HIV cases and a 50% increase in syphilis cases. Sadly, more than 60 cancer patients have reportedly died because the DADSE medication program was stopped, and over 1,500 patients are still waiting for their drugs.
