Karol Nawrocki, a conservative candidate, has won the presidential election in Poland. This result might make the country more nationalist. Nawrocki got 50.89% of the votes, beating Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski. He was supported by US President Donald Trump and Poland's Law and Justice party. This win makes the future of Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government unclear. The President can stop laws, which could make it hard for Tusk to achieve his pro-European plans. The election results have also made Tusk's political standing weaker, causing some people to ask him to step down. Nawrocki, who is a historian and amateur boxer, stands for traditional, patriotic values. Trump and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio celebrated his win. However, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen gave more careful congratulations, focusing on unity and security.
