Egyptian archaeologists have found three tombs from the New Kingdom period (1550–1070 B.C.) in Luxor, in an area called Dra Abu al-Naga. These tombs contain writings that explain who was buried there. Important officials were among them, such as Baki, who managed grain, and another person known as "S," who worked at the Temple of Amun and was also a writer. The third tomb belonged to Amum-em-Ipet, who worked for Amun's estate. Although his tomb was mostly damaged, parts of pictures showing people carrying funeral items and a celebration were discovered. The ministry has released photos of the objects and statues found in the tombs. This discovery happened before the Grand Egyptian Museum fully opens this summer. The museum will display over 100,000 items from Egypt's rich ancient past. Sherif Fathi, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, said that this discovery is a very important scientific and archaeological achievement, and it is expected to help cultural tourism grow.
