Hurricane Rachel formed on Wednesday in the Pacific Ocean.

The National Hurricane Center said this.

It did not threaten any land.

Rachel was about 380 miles (615 kilometers) west of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico.

It was also about 220 miles (350 kilometers) southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico.

Its maximum sustained winds were around 85 mph (140 kph).

The Miami-based center said this.

Forecasters said it would get stronger quickly.

It could become a major hurricane.

The cyclone was moving northwest at 9 mph (15 kph).

Forecasters said it would turn west-northwest and then west later this week.

It was expected to move away from mainland Mexico.

It was also expected to pass south of the Baja California peninsula.

The center said the Mexican government had ended all coastal watches and warnings.

Hurricane-force winds reached up to 25 miles (35 kilometers) from the storm's center.

Tropical-storm-force winds reached up to 160 miles (260 km).

In the central Pacific, Tropical Storm Nolo brought dangerous conditions.

These conditions threatened parts of Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.

The storm was formerly a hurricane.

It brought heavy rain to parts of Hawaii's Big Island over the weekend.

Its maximum sustained winds were near 50 mph (85 kph).

Pacific storm activity has been above average this year.

This matches El Niño years.
