The Trump administration started building a border wall in west Texas.
This is in the Big Bend area.
This is the first big building there.
Many people do not want it.
It is part of a $46 billion plan.
The plan is for walls, barriers, roads and technology.
President Donald Trump promised to finish the wall.
It was a key campaign promise.
Customs and Border Protection spoke.
They said workers are putting in wall panels.
The area is a 47-mile stretch in Hudspeth County.
It is called Big Bend 1.
The agency said the first panels went up on September 15.
A photo showed a crane.
It lifted a steel panel.
The panel is 30 feet tall.
This work is separate from a project nearby.
That project is in Big Bend National Park.
Building there is stopped for now.
In the Big Bend region, CBP faces opposition.
Landowners do not want it.
Environmental groups do not want it.
Business owners do not want it.
Ranchers do not want it.
They say few people cross there illegally.
The area is far away.
Clara Benson started the No Big Bend Wall Coalition.
She said the group will keep fighting.
She said the fight is not over.
CBP said it builds about 12 miles of barriers a week.
The border with Mexico is 2,000 miles long.
The agency said it just hit 200 miles of new barriers.
This is since the second Trump administration started.
That pace is double what Rodney Scott said earlier this year.
He is the agency head.
The agency also faces opposition.
Environmental groups oppose it.
A small town worries about flooding.
Native Americans oppose it.
Landowners oppose it.
