On Monday, they found the last person who was missing from a boat. The boat turned over on Lake Tahoe in California because of a big storm at the weekend. Eight people died in total.
On Saturday afternoon, a 27-foot boat with ten people on it turned over near D.L. Bliss State Park. This happened because a storm caused big waves. U.S. Coast Guard officials said this.
Two people were saved quickly and taken to a hospital. We don't know how they were doing. Six dead people were found on Saturday, and one more was found on Sunday evening, the police said. Divers looked in Lake Tahoe and found the last dead person on Monday afternoon.
Kyle Parker said they will not tell the names of the people who died until their families know.
People have drowned in the lake in recent years. Other accidents have also caused deaths. Big boat accidents where many people die are not common. In 2022, the South Lake Tahoe Police said that about six people die in the lake each summer. But in 2021, 15 people died, which was the highest number ever. The police don't have the newest numbers yet.
The storm was very strong, even for the people who predict the weather. They thought it would only rain a little. But around 3 p.m., a big storm hit the south side of the lake. Matthew Chyba, a weather expert, said the wind was faster than 35 mph (56 kph). The waves were also taller than 8 feet (2.5 meters).
"We didn't think it would be this strong," Chyba said.
He said it was much colder than usual there, and that might have made the air unstable.
Chyba said that the eight-foot waves on Lake Tahoe were "pretty big". He said they were really shaking the lake.
Lake Tahoe is a well-known place for summer fun, like boating and kayaking. This beautiful, cold lake sits between California and Nevada, and it's one of the deepest lakes in the US.
The people in charge haven't said anything about the group on the boat that turned over. We don't know if they rented the boat or if it was theirs.
The storm that happened on Saturday was over in about two hours.
Brittany Glick was on a boat she rented with seven other people. They were having a party for a friend who was getting married on Saturday. The wind started to blow harder, and the waves became bigger. She said that the day started sunny, but then it suddenly got colder and she couldn't see very well.
She said it felt like a big wave was starting. She had never felt anything like it.
After about an hour, the boat returned to the dock. The water became very rough, making the passengers wet. Then, it started to hail.
"It was scary to see all the boats turned over," Glick said. "We were very cold because we were wet. We were shaking a lot. Our feet felt numb, and our toes were turning blue. It was one of the scariest moments in my life. The storm came very fast. It was terrifying."
A video from KCRA-TV showed boats at a marina hitting each other because of strong winds.
