Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a builder from Maryland, said he was not guilty of helping people enter the country illegally. This happened in a court in Tennessee. His lawyers said the charges were wrong. They said the charges were just to explain why he was wrongly sent to El Salvador in March. This case started after the highest court said he could come back. Abrego Garcia's lawyers said that the people who spoke for the government were not telling the truth. They said these people helped because they wanted special help with their own immigration. The charges came from a time in 2022 when police stopped Abrego Garcia's car in Tennessee. He was driving nine people. Police thought he was helping them enter the country illegally. But they only gave him a warning and let him go. Before the court meeting, government lawyers said Abrego Garcia was dangerous to the community and might try to run away. They said he sold drugs and guns, and hurt women he drove. Because of these charges, a main lawyer named Ben Schrader left his job.
