Brad Lander, the New York City Comptroller and a Democratic candidate for mayor, was arrested by federal agents at an immigration court. He was taken into custody after he linked arms with someone the authorities were trying to detain. Lander was at the federal building in Manhattan to observe immigration court hearings. When agents tried to arrest a man leaving a courtroom, Lander held onto him and asked to see a judicial warrant. The agents eventually separated them and arrested Lander. After being released, Lander said he was only trying to protest Trump's immigration policies peacefully. This arrest happened while there is a national increase in large-scale arrests outside immigration courtrooms. Other Democratic candidates and politicians have criticized Lander's arrest.
