Learning Resources Inc., a toy company from Illinois, has taken its legal challenge against President Trump's tariffs to the Supreme Court. The company argues that these tariffs were put in place illegally using an emergency powers law, without getting approval from Congress. Although they won a case in a lower court before, that decision is now on hold because an appeals court is looking at a similar ruling. This means Trump can keep collecting the tariffs. Learning Resources stresses that the case needs to be heard quickly because the tariffs are greatly affecting businesses and customers. CEO Rick Woldenberg says that the tariffs are causing a lot of uncertainty and making prices higher. The company's lawyers have suggested that the court could decide by June if it will take the case and then hear arguments in the fall. The Trump administration defends the tariffs, saying that the emergency powers law allows the president to control imports during national emergencies.
