A judge in Massachusetts has stopped President Trump's attempt to change how U.S. elections work. The judge agreed with Democratic state lawyers who said Trump's actions were against the law. Trump's order, which he made in March, wanted people to show proof of citizenship to vote. It also said that mailed votes would only count if they arrived by Election Day. Additionally, states would only get federal money for elections if they followed this new rule. The White House said the order was to make sure elections were "free, fair, and honest." However, Judge Denise J. Casper decided that the states would probably win their legal case. She stated that the Constitution does not give the President special powers over elections. The ruling also stopped the part of the order that said states must reject any mailed votes received after Election Day. This is the second time a judge has blocked parts of Trump's election order, as a judge in Washington D.C. had already done something similar.
