For the first time, some parts of Alaska will have a heat advisory. This is a new term the National Weather Service is using instead of "special weather statements." They want to show how serious and dangerous the weather can be, not just say it's very hot. The first advisory was for Fairbanks, where temperatures were expected to go above 85 degrees Fahrenheit, which is unusual for June. This new term doesn't mean climate change, but it shows that hot weather does affect Alaska, especially where people don't have air conditioning. Right now, this advisory system is only used in Juneau and Fairbanks. However, they plan to use it in Anchorage too. Even with the heat, temperatures in Anchorage have not yet been high enough for a heat advisory.
