For the first time, some parts of Alaska will get a heat warning. The weather service will now use this instead of "special weather statements." This helps people understand how serious and dangerous the hot weather can be. For example, Fairbanks got the first warning because temperatures were expected to be over 85 degrees, which is very hot for June. This change is not about climate change. It just means that hot weather affects Alaska, especially where people do not have air conditioning. Right now, only Juneau and Fairbanks can use this warning system. But they plan to use it in Anchorage later. Even though it is hot in Anchorage, it has not been hot enough for a heat warning yet.
