A federal appeals court has temporarily stopped a judge's order for President Donald Trump to give control of National Guard troops back to California. This happened after the troops were sent to Los Angeles because of protests about immigration raids. Before this, a judge had said that sending these troops was against the law and that the president didn't have the power to do it. California's governor had supported this decision. However, the White House said the judge's order was "unprecedented" and an "abuse of power." This ruling only affected the National Guard, not other military groups like the Marines, who were also being sent out. The governor had sued to stop the Guard from being sent, saying it would make things worse and cause public disorder. The troops were sent under a law that lets the president use the National Guard for federal duties in specific situations.
