A federal appeals court will probably let former President Donald Trump keep control of California National Guard troops. These troops were sent to Los Angeles after protests about immigration raids. This decision comes after a lower court told Trump to give control of the guard back to Governor Gavin Newsom. Governor Newsom did not agree with sending the troops, saying Trump had used too much power. What happens in this case could really change how much power a president has to send soldiers into U.S. cities. This situation is important because it's the first time since 1965 that a president has used a state National Guard without the governor's permission. The judges, two chosen by Trump and one by Biden, said that presidents have a lot of freedom under the federal law. But they did not agree with the Justice Department lawyer who said courts could not check Trump's decision. The court is expected to make a decision soon.
