A federal appeals court has temporarily stopped a judge's order that would have made President Donald Trump give control of National Guard troops back to California. These troops were sent to Los Angeles because of protests about immigration. Before this, a judge had said that sending the troops was illegal. California's Governor supported this decision, but the White House said the judge's order was "unprecedented" and a "misuse of power." This decision only affected the National Guard, not the Marines who were also being sent. The Governor had sued to stop the Guard from being sent, saying it would increase tensions and cause public unrest. The troops were sent under a rule that allows the president to use the National Guard for federal duties in specific situations.
