At least 10 people in the U.S. are sick from a listeria outbreak linked to ready-to-eat food, and a company is taking several products off the market, government officials said.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Saturday that government officials are investigating a health issue. This issue is linked to food made by Fresh & Ready Foods LLC in San Fernando, California. The FDA reported that ten people in California and Nevada got sick and needed to go to the hospital.

The agency said the products were sold in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington. You could find them in stores and places that sell food, like hospitals, hotels, convenience stores, airports, and on airplanes.

Usually, symptoms of listeria start within two weeks after eating food that contains the bacteria. Mild symptoms are fever, muscle pain, feeling sick, feeling tired, throwing up, and having diarrhea. More serious symptoms can be headaches, a stiff neck, feeling confused, problems with balance, and fits.

Government officials said they started looking into the recent infections last year but didn't have enough proof to find where they came from. They said the investigation started again in April when health experts found the same kind of bacteria from the infections in food samples from Fresh & Ready Foods.

Fresh & Ready Foods announced they quickly took steps to fix the problem, such as removing equipment.

The FDA found that six out of the 10 people who got sick had been in the hospital before they got listeria. The FDA also found that food from Fresh & Ready Foods was given in at least three of the hospitals where these patients had been treated before.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that they collected test samples from sick people between December 2023 and September 2024.

Fresh & Ready decided to recall some products, which you can find by checking the "use by" dates between April 22 and May 19 this year. The products are sold under the names Fresh & Ready Foods, City Point Market Fresh Food to Go, and Fresh Take Crave Away.
