Mary Lou Retton, a famous American gymnast, was arrested in West Virginia for driving under the influence, which is a minor offense. On May 17th, police stopped her after someone reported a Porsche being driven unsafely. Officers noticed she smelled of alcohol, her speech was unclear, and there was a wine bottle in the passenger seat. Retton, who is 57, failed a sobriety test and refused both a roadside breath test and a blood test. She was later released from custody after paying a $1,500 bond. Her lawyer, Edmund J. Rollo, has not yet commented on the situation. This incident happened after it was revealed in 2023 that Retton was recovering from a rare type of pneumonia that required her to be in intensive care due to very low oxygen levels.
