Musk first wanted to cut spending from $2 trillion, but this was reduced to $1 trillion, and then to only $150 billion. This made other people in Trump's team feel more frustrated and tense. Musk is leaving after he criticized Trump's new laws, especially a "massive spending bill" that Musk thinks will make the government owe more money. Even though he is leaving, the White House still wants to make some of the cuts Musk suggested. However, Musk has said he is disappointed with the government system and plans to spend less money on politics.
