A man who used to deliver food said he did something wrong. He worked with others to steal money from DoorDash. They made DoorDash pay for food that was never delivered. They stole more than $2 million, police said.
Sayee Devagiri said he was guilty of a crime in court, said the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Devagiri, 30, from Newport Beach, California, said he worked with three people in 2020 and 2021 to trick a delivery company in San Francisco, said the police.
The police said Devagiri used people's accounts to order things. He then used a worker's password to get into DoorDash's system. He changed the orders to go to his and his friends' driver accounts. These accounts said they delivered the orders, but they did not. Devagiri then made DoorDash pay these accounts for deliveries that never happened, the police said.
Devagiri used the DoorDash app to say orders were not yet ready. Then, he gave the orders to himself and his friends again. The police said this.
The worker said he was wrong about the plan to trick people with money in 2023, the police said.
Devagiri is the third person found guilty in this plan. He may go to jail for 20 years and pay $250,000. He will be back in court on Sept. 16.
