On Tuesday, Google unveiled the Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition), an enhanced iteration of their leading Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model, which the company asserts surpasses various prevalent benchmarks.
The Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) can be accessed through the Gemini API, as well as Google’s Vertex AI and AI Studio platforms, maintaining the identical pricing structure as the Gemini 2.5 Pro model it effectively supersedes. Additionally, it is integrated into Google’s Gemini chatbot application, available for both web and mobile platforms.
The model is being released before Google's yearly I/O conference for developers, which is why it's called the "I/O edition." At this conference, Google plans to show many new models, as well as tools and platforms that use AI. The company is trying hard to get people to think of them first and to get a bigger share of the market in the very competitive AI race. Other companies like OpenAI and xAI are about to release models that are expected to work very well.
Google says that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is much better at coding and making interactive web apps. The company also says the model is better at things like changing code to reach a certain goal and editing code.
In a recent blog post, Google highlights that their Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) currently tops the WebDev Arena Leaderboard, a significant metric for evaluating a model's proficiency in developing visually appealing and practical web applications. Furthermore, Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) demonstrates exceptional performance in video analysis, achieving a score of 84.8% on the widely recognized VideoMME benchmark.
In a blog post, Google stated that the updated Gemini 2.5 Pro is set to benefit existing users by not only enhancing coding efficiency but also by rectifying critical developer concerns, such as minimizing function calling inaccuracies and boosting trigger rates. Furthermore, Google noted that the model inherently favors aesthetically pleasing web development, while still retaining its capacity for guidance.
