Google's app for iPhones is getting a new button called "Simplify". It uses AI to make hard words on websites easier to understand. You can do this without leaving the website.
Simplify is a tool from Google that uses Gemini to make hard text easier to read. It helps you understand and remember the important things. Google tested this and found that people learned and remembered the information better.
Google wants people to use its tools, like Simplify, to understand difficult topics. They hope people will not use other tools like ChatGPT.
To use Simplify, choose any words on a webpage you are looking at in the Google app. Then, press the 'Simplify' button you see. You will then see the words in an easier way, so you can understand the information better and keep reading.
On Google's blog, you can see what this feature might do. For example, you might read a sentence like this: "This illness damages the lungs in many ways. It changes the lung tissue, causes scarring, changes the cells that fight sickness, makes more things that affect the immune system, and changes the blood vessels in the lungs."
This is a difficult lung problem. It hurts the lungs because of emphysema, which damages the small air sacs. It also causes many scars in the lung tissue, called fibrosis. The cells in the lungs that fight sickness change, and the body makes more things that control how the body fights sickness. The blood tubes in the lungs also change a lot.
Google says the idea is to help people understand difficult subjects they find when they learn new things online.
Google said, "We want our models to rewrite difficult ideas correctly. They should not make mistakes or leave out important parts. The new text should help people understand hard information without changing the real meaning."
Simplify will be available for iOS users starting this week.
