TikTok is improving its search by showing reviews for some places directly in the comments under a video. This test feature means you don't need to search again or use Google if you see a place on TikTok and want information.
If you are a TikTok user who has this new feature, you will see a "Reviews" tab on the right when you look at the video's comments.
For example, if you see a video of Central Park in New York City with the location marked, you can view other users' star ratings, written reviews, and any photos they have shared.
From here, you can click on a reviewer's username to go to their TikTok profile. This makes this feature different from an older system that used a Google Maps icon.
While the new feature might be good for some, others may feel it makes the user experience too busy when they are looking at content.
This is the latest way TikTok is trying to improve its search and compete with Google.
In 2022, a Google leader said that TikTok was taking users away from its main services, Search and Maps, especially younger people. Now, TikTok has become a strong competitor to Google in several areas.
TikTok is very popular for finding places, especially with young people (Gen Z). Last year, they also added a feature where you can use pictures to search for similar products in their shop.
Also, from September 2024, TikTok started letting companies advertise on its search results page using "TikTok Search Ads Campaigns." This is a system where companies use keywords to show their ads when people search for things.
We don't know if TikTok will offer this review feature to everyone, as the company didn't want to comment before the article was published.
