Some people think TikTok makes it hard to focus. But people all over the world are watching a simple live video from a TV channel in Sweden they don't know. This video is about the Great Moose Migration.
Every spring for a long time, moose walk across the Ångerman River to a warmer place for the summer. Since 2019, people around the world can watch this for three weeks. A Swedish TV channel shows it online with many cameras to see everything the moose do.
The online video mostly shows quiet pictures of forests and rivers. If you are lucky, you might see a moose walking by. The moose does not know it is famous around the world. It is just a moose, walking slowly and not worrying about anything.
Usually, the stream is quiet. Sometimes, you hear the wind and the birds. It's nice, even if you forget it's on and are surprised by the sounds of birds from far away.
A student from Sweden told a news agency: "I feel relaxed, but at the same time I think, 'Oh, a moose! What if a moose comes? I can't go to the toilet!'"
The live stream of the moose continues throughout the night. Special cameras allow us to see the moose even in the dark. However, the black and white image makes it look more like a scary movie than a nature program. Despite this, seeing a moose is still exciting, even if the picture is a bit strange.
Last year, 9 million people watched SVT's moose stream. The Discovery Channel's Shark Week had more than 22 million viewers in 2023. SVT only shows live nature videos and has 15 workers. So, 9 million is a good number.
These live videos are interesting because they are very different from what we usually see online. Your TikTok shows you short videos that are just for you, so it is hard to stop watching. YouTubers change their videos carefully to keep us watching for a long time.
However, the moose have no interest in us. They are unaware of our presence, even though we are here supporting them.
