Some people think TikTok makes it hard to focus. But many people all over the world are watching a simple live show from a TV channel in Sweden they don't know. It's about the Great Moose Migration.
Every spring for a very long time, moose walk across the Ångerman River to find a warmer place for the summer. Since 2019, people all over the world can watch this for three weeks online. A Swedish TV channel shows it live using more than 30 cameras.
The live video shows quiet pictures of forests and rivers. If you are lucky, you might see a moose walking by. The moose does not know it is famous around the world. It is just a moose walking slowly and not worrying about anything.
Most of the time, the stream is quiet. Sometimes, you hear the wind blow and the birds sing. It is nice, even if you forget it is open on your computer and are surprised by sounds from far away.
A student from Sweden told the AP: "I feel relaxed, but I also think, 'Oh, a moose. What if there is a moose? I can't go to the toilet!'"
The video stream continues even at night. We use special cameras to see the moose when it's dark. The black and white pictures look a bit scary, like a horror film, but we can still see the moose.
Last year, 9 million people watched SVT's live video of moose. In 2023, Discovery Channel's Shark Week had over 22 million viewers. SVT only shows live nature videos and has 15 people working there. So, compared to Shark Week, that is quite good.
These live videos are interesting because they are very different from what we usually see online. On TikTok, you see short videos that are made for you, so you keep watching. On YouTube, people edit their videos carefully to keep us interested for a long time.
But the moose don't need anything from us. They don't even see us here, watching them.
