North Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Belichick has resigned.

The school is finishing an investigation into its football program.

He is the son of head coach Bill Belichick.

The school said Thursday that his resignation takes effect in late October.

That is when his medical leave ends.

The leave was announced early in preseason camp.

Steve Belichick is the second high-profile resignation during the probe.

General manager Michael Lombardi resigned earlier this month.

The school said the investigation found that certain actions showed a disregard for Carolina's values and standards of conduct.

It did not reveal what those actions were.

The school also said the actions were isolated and not a systemic failure.

Lead investigator and attorney Nate Huff said his team conducted about 60 interviews.

He confirmed the probe looked into allegations of possible drug use, inappropriate relationships and NCAA rule violations.

Huff said he never felt that university or athletics leaders limited or steered him.

He said his team had full access.

He also said Bill Belichick and his staff made themselves available during the season.

Bill Belichick said he believes his program totally follows the rules.

He added that everyone, including himself, is responsible for doing things properly.

The school said it continues to support him and the football program.

UNC said all necessary corrective actions are underway.

It also said it considers the investigation resolved.

The school declined to comment on specific individuals, citing its personnel policy.
