With construction happening at the new Athletics ballpark in Las Vegas, team owner John Fisher spoke to a crowd, saying, "We are Vegas' team."

Many people, including MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, local officials, former Athletics stars like Rollie Fingers and Dave Stewart, and young baseball players, watched the team celebrate the start of construction on their new stadium. This stadium will cost $1.75 billion, hold 33,000 people, and should be ready for the 2028 season.

The state of Nevada and Clark County have agreed to provide up to $380 million in public money for the project.

Team president Marc Badain said he was sure the project would be finished by 2028, and the local workers were ready to begin right away.

It's good to see the positive impact of today and think about what the next three years will mean for the community, the building project, and new jobs, as construction on this building starts, possibly even tonight.

Badain had a similar experience when he worked in the same role for the NFL's Raiders. He was very important in the team's move from Oakland to Las Vegas in 2020, and also in getting the $2 billion Allegiant Stadium approved and built.

Before Allegiant Stadium was finished, the Raiders stayed in Oakland for three seasons, sharing their stadium with the A's. The Raiders kept a strong connection to the Bay Area, but A's fans were very angry about their team leaving and how it was handled.

The team could not stay in Oakland, so they played their last season in the old stadium last year. The A's are now playing in a smaller stadium in West Sacramento, California, for at least three years while they wait to move to Las Vegas.

Fisher explained that their local team wanted to attract young fans because getting children interested often helps get their parents involved too. He added that building a winning team takes much more time than people usually think.

We want to keep getting better, and putting a team together, like any big project, can take longer than you think, similar to building a stadium. But we believe we have the right people to be very successful.

Bally's will build the stadium on nine acres of their 35-acre property, which is at the corner of Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. The Tropicana hotel buildings were knocked down overnight in October to make space for the new ballpark.

The Oakland A's are trying to do well in their temporary home while also getting ready for their future. Each player wears a patch of Sacramento's Tower Bridge on one sleeve and a Las Vegas logo on the other. This is part of a three-year agreement with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

In December, the Las Vegas Stadium Authority approved the lease, non-relocation agreement, and development plans. These were the last important steps for the Athletics to become Las Vegas' team.

Drawings show a stadium with five overlapping sections that look a lot like Australia's famous Sydney Opera House. A big glass window behind the outfield makes it feel like you're outside, with views of the Las Vegas Strip. Instead of one central cooling system, air conditioning will be sent through the seats.

This will be MLB's smallest stadium. However, Tropicana Field, where the Tampa Bay Rays usually play, can hold 25,000 people when the upper sections are closed. When they are open, it has almost 40,000 seats.

The Rays, like the A's, are playing in a smaller stadium this season because Hurricane Milton damaged their main stadium. It's not clear where the Tampa Bay team will play in the future, and new owners might take over the club soon.

Cleveland plays baseball at Progressive Field, which has a capacity of 34,830 seats. This is smaller than the original 43,345 when the stadium first opened in 1994.

The Oakland A's baseball team is getting ready to move to Las Vegas. They will be the fourth main professional sports team there, joining the Raiders football team, the Golden Knights hockey team, and the Aces basketball team.

Manfred said that the local population, the success of other sports, and the amount of tourism make this a perfect place for them. He also believes the team will be very successful in Las Vegas.
