Some tennis players from other countries at the French Open have complained about the difficult atmosphere when they play against French players, saying it felt like a very intense football game. Last year, because the crowd was so aggressive, booing and shouting insults, the tournament organizers decided to stop selling alcohol in the stands. Some players, like Nicolás Jarry from Chile, have said their experiences were "disgusting" and the worst they have ever had. To deal with the crowd's bad behavior, the tournament director, Amélie Mauresmo, said that security has been increased, and the umpires now have more power to intervene and report unacceptable actions. However, not all players are bothered by this difficult atmosphere. For example, the Belgian player Elise Mertens said it is a normal part of tennis. The French player Corentin Moutet agreed that playing at home creates pressure and advised players to just ignore it.
