The Formula 1 team Alpine is changing its drivers. They are replacing Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto for at least the next five races.

Alpine said they made the change on Wednesday, the day after Oliver Oakes stopped being the team boss. The team also said Flavio Briatore will stay as an executive advisor and do Oakes' job.

Alpine said that Colapinto will race with Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. They will check how he does before the British Grand Prix in July.

After six races, Alpine is ninth in the F1 teams' standings. The next race is from May 16-18 in Imola.

During Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan hit another car at the start of the race and crashed on the next lap.

Before the Miami GP weekend, Oakes said that reports about changing the driver were not true. He also said that the new Australian driver would stay in the car.

Doohan, who didn't score any points in his seven GP races and finished best in 13th place, will return to being the team's reserve driver.

Jack Doohan, whose father Mick Doohan won the motorcycle world championship five times, first drove in Formula 1 at the end of 2024. This year, he began the season for Alpine at the first race in Australia. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who left Alpine after a difficult year in 2024.

Colapinto became a reserve driver for Alpine in January. He raced for Williams in 2024 and got five points after replacing Logan Sargeant in August.
