Non-French athletes at the French Open tennis tournament have complained about the unfriendly atmosphere when playing against French opponents, saying it's like a very intense football game. The crowd's aggressive actions, such as booing, whistling, and shouting insults, caused the tournament organizers to ban alcohol from the stands last year. Some athletes, like Chile's Nicolás Jarry, have called their experiences "disgusting" and the worst of their lives. Because of the bad crowd behavior, tournament director Amélie Mauresmo said security has been increased and chair umpires have been given more power to step in and report bad behavior. However, not all athletes are bothered by the unfriendliness, with Belgian player Elise Mertens saying it's a normal part of tennis. French player Corentin Moutet understood the pressure of playing at home, telling players to ignore it.
