Formula 1 team Alpine has altered its driver roster to elevate Franco Colapinto for a minimum of the subsequent five Grand Prix events, displacing Jack Doohan.
Alpine substantiated the alteration on Wednesday, a day following Oliver Oakes' resignation as team principal, with the team indicating that Flavio Briatore will maintain his role as executive advisor and undertake Oakes' former responsibilities.
According to a statement from Alpine, Colapinto will partner with Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, with a further assessment planned before the British Grand Prix in July.
After six races, Alpine sits ninth in the Formula 1 constructors' championship standings, with the upcoming race weekend scheduled for May 16-18 in Imola.
During Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan collided with another vehicle on the inaugural lap before subsequently crashing on the second.
Prior to the Miami GP weekend, Oakes refuted media speculation regarding a driver rotation, having previously indicated that the rookie Australian driver would retain his position.
Doohan, having not achieved any points in his seven GP races and with a highest placement of 13th, will transition back to his role as the team's reserve driver.
Jack Doohan, son of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, commenced his Formula 1 career at the conclusion of the 2024 season and initiated the current year driving for Alpine at the inaugural Australian Grand Prix, stepping in for Esteban Ocon, who departed Alpine following a lacklustre performance in 2024.
Colapinto became a reserve driver for Alpine in January, having previously raced for Williams in 2024, where he secured five points after taking over from Logan Sargeant in August.
