Freddie Freeman collected two singles and a triple with the bases loaded, powering the Los Angeles Dodgers to a resounding 10-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Freeman demonstrated exceptional performance, driving in four runs and extending his hitting streak to 12 games, as the dominant MLB team, the Dodgers (25-12), secured victory in two of three games in Miami, marking their fourth consecutive series win. Freeman's impactful contribution included going 8 for 13 in the series, with six RBIs and two home runs.
Shohei Ohtani hit a triple and secured three walks on Wednesday, notably an intentional one during a six-run seventh inning against relief pitcher Lake Bachar.
Substitute player James Outman extended the Dodgers’ advantage with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Landon Knack (2-0) limited opponents to four hits and no runs while achieving five strikeouts after his recall from Triple-A Oklahoma City earlier on Wednesday. Matt Sauer, also recalled, took over for Knack and completed the final four innings to secure his initial career save.
Miami's starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, yielded a mere single hit and recorded seven strikeouts across five and one-third innings without conceding any runs. He was replaced by Cade Gibson after the first batter of the sixth inning, thus avoiding a third encounter with Ohtani, who subsequently tripled off Gibson (0-1) in the very next at-bat.
First-year catcher Augustin Ramirez achieved a single and a double for the Marlins (14-22), a team that has lost nine of their last eleven games, putting their recent record at 2-9.
Jesús Sánchez registered a single in the sixth inning and accounted for Miami's sole run by hitting a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
In the seventh inning against Bachar, who had entered the game and subsequently surrendered a walk, a single, and a run-scoring single, the Dodgers decisively broke the game open. With first base unoccupied, Bachar issued an intentional walk to Ohtani before walking Mookie Betts with the bases full. Freeman then delivered a bases-clearing triple, which was followed by another run-scoring single.
The Dodgers managed only a solitary hit across the initial five innings against Bellozo, before accumulating eleven hits off four Miami relief pitchers.
The Dodgers commence a four-game set in Arizona on Thursday, featuring RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (4-2, 0.90) as their starting pitcher, while the Marlins have a scheduled day off before RHP Max Meyer (2-3, 3.92) pitches the initial game of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
