Non-French athletes at the French Open tennis tournament have complained about the unfriendly atmosphere when playing against French opponents, saying it's like a very intense football game. The crowd's aggressive behavior, including booing, whistling, and shouting insults, caused the tournament organizers to stop selling alcohol in the stands last year. Some athletes, like Chile's Nicolás Jarry, have called their experiences "disgusting" and the worst they have ever had. Because of the bad crowd behavior, tournament director Amélie Mauresmo said that security has been increased and chair umpires can now do more to stop and report bad behavior. However, not all athletes are bothered by the unfriendliness; for example, Belgian player Elise Mertens said it's a normal part of tennis. French player Corentin Moutet understood the pressure of playing at home and told players to ignore it.
