Alpine, the Formula 1 team, has adjusted its driver configuration, elevating Franco Colapinto for a minimum of the forthcoming five Grand Prix events, thereby replacing Jack Doohan.
Alpine corroborated the alteration on Wednesday, one day after Oliver Oakes relinquished his role as team principal. The team stated that Flavio Briatore will maintain his position as executive advisor and undertake Oakes' responsibilities.
According to a statement from Alpine, Colapinto is set to race alongside Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, with a further assessment planned before the British Grand Prix in July.
Following six rounds of the F1 season, Alpine currently occupies ninth position in the constructors' standings; the upcoming race weekend is scheduled to take place at Imola from May 16th to 18th.
During Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix, Doohan collided with another vehicle on the initial lap before subsequently crashing on the second lap.
Ahead of the Miami Grand Prix weekend, Oakes refuted media reports suggesting a driver change was imminent, confirming that the rookie Australian driver would retain his position.
Doohan, who did not accumulate any points in his seven Grand Prix appearances and achieved a highest placement of 13th, will return to his previous role as the team's reserve driver.
Jack Doohan, son of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, initiated his Formula 1 journey during the final race of 2024 and commenced the current season driving for Alpine at the Australian Grand Prix, replacing Esteban Ocon who departed Alpine following a challenging 2024 campaign.
Colapinto was appointed as a reserve driver for Alpine in January, having competed for Williams in 2024, where he accumulated five points after taking over from Logan Sargeant in August.
