Freddie Freeman achieved two singles and a triple with the bases loaded, contributing to the Los Angeles Dodgers' commanding 10-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Freeman's pivotal performance, driving in four runs and extending his hitting streak to a remarkable 12 games, propelled the MLB-leading Dodgers (25-12) to secure two victories in their three-game series in Miami, marking their fourth consecutive series triumph. Throughout the series, Freeman was particularly dominant, achieving eight hits in thirteen at-bats, contributing six RBIs, and hitting two home runs.
On Wednesday, Shohei Ohtani achieved a triple and secured three walks, notably an intentional one in the seventh inning's six-run rally against pitcher Lake Bachar.
Substitute player James Outman extended the Dodgers’ advantage with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Landon Knack (2-0) surrendered four hits and zero runs while registering five strikeouts after being promoted earlier Wednesday from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Matt Sauer, who was also summoned, came in for Knack and threw the final four innings to secure his first career save.
Miami's starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, delivered a commanding performance, yielding merely a solitary hit and fanning seven over five and a third scoreless innings. He was subsequently relieved by Cade Gibson after just one batter in the sixth, thereby circumventing a third encounter with Ohtani, who then promptly tripled off Gibson (0-1) in the ensuing at-bat.
The burgeoning catcher, Augustin Ramirez, contributed a single and a double for the Marlins (14-22), whose recent performance has been subpar, reflected in their 2-9 record over the past eleven contests.
Jesús Sánchez's sixth-inning single and subsequent ninth-inning sacrifice fly accounted for Miami's solitary run.
In the seventh inning, the Dodgers significantly increased their lead against Bachar. When he came in, he allowed a walk, a single, and then another single that scored a run. With first base empty, Bachar chose to walk Ohtani on purpose. Then, he walked Mookie Betts when all the bases were full. After that, Freeman hit a triple that cleared the bases, and then there was another single that scored a run.
The Dodgers managed only a solitary hit during the initial five innings against Bellozo, yet subsequently amassed eleven hits off four Miami relievers.
The Dodgers commence a four-game series in Arizona on Thursday, featuring RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (4-2, 0.90) as the starting pitcher. The Marlins have a rest day on Thursday before RHP Max Meyer (2-3, 3.92) takes the mound for the inaugural game of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
