Freddie Freeman had two hits and a hit with the bases full, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Miami Marlins 10-1 on Wednesday.
Freeman helped his team score four times and hit safely in 12 games in a row. His team, the Dodgers, who are the best in the MLB, won their fourth series in a row after winning two out of three games in Miami. Freeman played well in these games, hitting the ball eight times out of 13 tries, and helped his team score six runs, including two home runs.
On Wednesday, Shohei Ohtani hit a triple and walked three times, including one time when the pitcher walked him on purpose. This happened in the seventh inning when his team scored six runs against the pitcher Lake Bachar.
Substitute player James Outman increased the Dodgers’ lead with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Landon Knack (2-0) had a good game after joining the team from Triple-A Oklahoma City, allowing four hits but no scores and getting five strikeouts. Matt Sauer, who also came up to the team, pitched after Knack and finished the last four innings to get his first save.
Miami's first pitcher, Valente Bellozo, only let the other team hit the ball once and got seven players out by striking them out over more than five innings without letting them score. Another pitcher, Cade Gibson, took his place early in the sixth inning before Bellozo had to throw to Ohtani again. In the next turn at bat, Ohtani hit the ball so it went very far, getting three bases off Gibson.
Young catcher Augustin Ramirez hit one single and one double for the Marlins (14 wins, 22 losses). They have now lost 9 out of their last 11 games.
Jesús Sánchez hit a single in the sixth inning and scored Miami's only run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.
In the seventh inning, the Dodgers started scoring a lot of points against Bachar. He gave up a walk, a single, and a single that scored a run. With a base free, Bachar decided to intentionally walk Ohtani, and then he walked Mookie Betts when all the bases were full. Next, Freeman hit a triple that brought in all the runners, and after that, another single brought in another run.
The Dodgers only got one hit in the first five innings against Bellozo, but then had 11 hits against four other Miami pitchers.
The Dodgers start a four-game series in Arizona on Thursday, with pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (4-2, 0.90) playing. The Marlins have a day off on Thursday, then pitcher Max Meyer (2-3, 3.92) starts a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
