Formula 1 team Alpine has changed its drivers. They are letting Franco Colapinto race in the next five Grand Prix events instead of Jack Doohan.
Alpine said the change happened on Wednesday, one day after Oliver Oakes stopped being the team principal. The team also said Flavio Briatore will stay as executive advisor and do Oakes' job.
Alpine announced that Colapinto will race with Pierre Gasly from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. They will check how he does before the British Grand Prix in July.
After six races, Alpine is in ninth place among the F1 teams. The next race is from May 16-18 in Imola.
At Sunday's race in Miami, Doohan hit another car at the start and then crashed on the second lap.
Before the Miami Grand Prix, Oakes denied media stories that a different driver would be used, saying the new Australian driver would keep his place.
Doohan, who didn't get any points in his seven races and finished best in 13th place, will go back to being the team's reserve driver.
Jack Doohan, whose father Mick Doohan was a five-time motorcycle world champion, began his Formula 1 career in the last race of 2024. He drove for Alpine in the first race of this year, the Australian Grand Prix. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who left the team after a difficult 2024 season.
Colapinto became a reserve driver for Alpine in January. Before that, he raced for Williams in 2024 and got five points. He started racing for Williams in August, taking the place of Logan Sargeant.
