Freddie Freeman contributed significantly to the Los Angeles Dodgers' decisive 10-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday with a pair of singles and a triple that cleared the bases.
Freeman was instrumental in securing victory for the Dodgers, driving in four runs and prolonging his hitting streak to twelve games. His performance was a key factor in the team's success as they claimed their fourth consecutive series win in Miami, where they triumphed in two out of three games. Over the course of the series, Freeman proved to be a formidable force, achieving an impressive 8-for-13 batting record, including six runs batted in and two home runs.
On Wednesday, Shohei Ohtani achieved a triple and was awarded three walks, one of which was an intentional pass issued during the decisive six-run seventh inning against relief pitcher Lake Bachar.
Substitute batter James Outman extended the Dodgers’ lead significantly with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Landon Knack (2-0), recently promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City earlier on Wednesday, yielded four hits and no runs while achieving five strikeouts. Matt Sauer, who was also recalled, replaced Knack and completed the final four innings to secure his initial career save.
Miami's starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, yielded only a solitary hit and fanned seven opposing batters over an impressive five and one-third scoreless innings. He was subsequently replaced by Cade Gibson just one batter into the sixth inning, thus avoiding a third encounter with Ohtani. In the subsequent at-bat, Ohtani hit a triple off Gibson (whose record fell to 0-1).
First-year catcher Augustin Ramirez achieved both a single and a double for the Marlins (14-22), a team that has now lost nine of their previous eleven matches, lowering their record to 2-9 in that span.
In the sixth inning, Jesús Sánchez singled, and he later accounted for Miami's solitary run in the ninth with a sacrifice fly.
In the seventh inning, the Dodgers decisively broke the game open against Bachar, who, upon entering, issued a walk, allowed a single, and then a run-scoring single. With first base unoccupied, Bachar intentionally walked Ohtani before also walking Mookie Betts with the bases loaded. Freeman subsequently hit a bases-clearing triple, which was followed by another run-scoring single.
The Dodgers registered only a solitary hit across the initial five innings against Bellozo, before amassing eleven hits off four Miami relievers.
The Dodgers commence a four-game series in Arizona on Thursday, with right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (4-2, 0.90) scheduled to pitch. The Marlins have a day off Thursday before right-handed pitcher Max Meyer (2-3, 3.92) is slated to start the opening game of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
