Formula 1 team Alpine has made alterations to its driver roster, promoting Franco Colapinto for a minimum of the next five Grand Prix events, replacing Jack Doohan.

Alpine ratified the alteration on Wednesday, following the previous day's departure of Oliver Oakes as team principal. The team declared that Flavio Briatore will persist in his role as executive advisor and undertake Oakes' responsibilities.

Alpine confirmed that Colapinto is scheduled to race alongside Pierre Gasly starting with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, with a further assessment planned before the British Grand Prix in July.

Following the initial six rounds, Alpine occupies ninth position in the Formula 1 constructors' standings. The forthcoming race weekend is scheduled for May 16th to 18th at Imola.

During Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan collided with another vehicle on the initial lap before subsequently crashing on the second lap.

Oakes refuted media speculation about a driver change prior to the Miami GP weekend, confirming the rookie Australian would retain his position.

Doohan, having failed to secure any points in his seven GP races and achieving a top position of 13th, will return to his role as the team's reserve driver.

Jack Doohan, whose father Mick Doohan was a five-time motorcycle world champion, started his Formula 1 career at the end of the 2024 season. He began this year driving for Alpine at the first race in Australia, taking the place of Esteban Ocon, who left Alpine after a difficult 2024.

Colapinto became a reserve driver for Alpine in January, having competed for Williams in 2024, where he secured five points after taking over from Logan Sargeant in August.
