Freddie Freeman contributed significantly with two singles and a bases-loaded triple, propelling the Los Angeles Dodgers to a commanding 10-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Freeman's outstanding performance, driving in four runs and extending his hitting streak to twelve games, was instrumental in the MLB-leading Dodgers' (25-12) success as they secured two victories out of three against Miami, ultimately winning their fourth consecutive series. His remarkable batting in the series saw him achieve eight hits in thirteen at-bats, contributing six RBIs and two home runs.
On Wednesday, Shohei Ohtani achieved a triple and was awarded three walks, notably an intentional pass granted during a seven-run seventh inning facing reliever Lake Bachar.
Substitute player James Outman increased the Dodgers’ advantage with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Landon Knack (2-0) yielded four hits and no runs with five strikeouts after his recall earlier Wednesday from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Matt Sauer, who was also summoned, came in after Knack and handled the final four innings to secure his first career save.
Miami's starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, had a strong game, allowing only one hit and striking out seven batters over five and a third innings without giving up any runs. He was replaced by Cade Gibson at the start of the sixth inning to avoid facing Ohtani again. Ohtani then hit a triple off Gibson (0-1) in his next turn at bat.
The Marlins' rookie catcher, Augustin Ramirez, demonstrated his potential by achieving a single and a double, though his team (14-22) experienced a significant slump, losing nine of their last eleven games.
In the sixth inning, Jesús Sánchez hit a single, and in the ninth, he brought in Miami's sole run with a sacrifice fly.
The Dodgers extended their lead significantly in the seventh inning against Bachar, who entered the game and allowed a walk, a single, and a run-scoring single. With first base unoccupied, Bachar deliberately walked Ohtani before walking Mookie Betts with the bases full. Freeman then hit a bases-clearing triple, followed by another run-scoring single.
The Dodgers registered only a single hit over the initial five innings against Bellozo, yet accumulated eleven hits off four Miami relievers.
The Dodgers initiate a four-game series in Arizona on Thursday, featuring RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (4-2, 0.90) as the starting pitcher, while the Marlins have a day off Thursday before RHP Max Meyer (2-3, 3.92) pitches the initial game of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
