Formula 1 constructor Alpine has modified its driver configuration, advancing Franco Colapinto for a minimum of the subsequent five Grand Prix events, replacing Jack Doohan.
Alpine officially announced the alteration on Wednesday, a day following Oliver Oakes' resignation as team principal; the team stated that Flavio Briatore would retain his role as executive advisor and assume Oakes' responsibilities.
Alpine announced in a statement that Colapinto will partner with Pierre Gasly starting at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, pending a further assessment before the British Grand Prix in July.
Following six rounds, Alpine currently occupies ninth place in the Formula 1 constructors' standings. The subsequent race weekend is scheduled for May 16th to 18th at Imola.
During Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the initial lap and subsequently crashed on the second lap.
Ahead of the Miami Grand Prix weekend, Oakes refuted media speculation about a driver change, affirming that the rookie Australian driver would retain his position.
Doohan, having not accumulated any points across his seven Grand Prix appearances and achieving a personal best of thirteenth place, will resume his prior role as the team's reserve driver.
Jack Doohan, son of the five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, commenced his Formula 1 career in the final race of 2024 before competing for Alpine at the inaugural Australian Grand Prix this year, stepping in for Esteban Ocon who departed the team following a lacklustre 2024 season.
Colapinto was appointed as a reserve driver for Alpine in January, having competed for Williams in 2024, where he secured five points following his substitution for Logan Sargeant in August.
