Many fans waited early in the morning to see Jimin and Jung Kook. They are famous K-pop stars from BTS and the last members to finish their required military service in South Korea.
They wore their army clothes on Wednesday, saluted, and spoke to the fans who came to see them after they left the army.
Jung Kook thanked the journalists and fans who came to see him and Jimin after they finished their work. He said it felt strange to be famous again. "I haven't been in front of cameras for a long time, and I didn't wear any makeup, so I feel a little shy," he said. "I don't know what to say."
They joined in December 2023, one day after RM and V did. RM and V finished their service on Tuesday.
Fans came from many countries to the park to meet the stars. It was safer to have it there instead of at the army base gate. Buses with pictures of the BTS members were on the streets. Red and yellow balloons were in the air, and a food truck gave away free coffee and water. This made it feel like a party.
Many fans wore masks because they knew there could be problems. The band's company said it was not safe, so they told people not to come. But fans like Anaesi from Portugal traveled for 20 hours to Yeoncheon, a town near North Korea. She said it was worth the long trip.
She also had a colorful tattoo on her arm. It showed a gold shield with the word "ARMY" and an eagle above it. There was also Korean writing with the names of BTS members and her friends.
V thanked fans on Tuesday for waiting for him and RM to come back. He also said the band would be together again soon. He said, "Please wait a little longer, and we will come back with a very good show."
The seven singers from the famous K-pop band will get together again in 2025, after they finish their work.
Six of the seven people in the group were in the army. Suga is working as a social service agent instead of being in the army. He will finish this job later this month.
Jin, who is the oldest member of BTS, left the army in June 2024. J-Hope left the army in October.
In South Korea, most men between 18 and 28 have to join the army for about two years. This is because the country wants to protect itself from North Korea.
The law gives special permission to some people, like athletes or musicians. They can get this if they win important awards and make their country proud. But K-pop stars and other entertainers cannot get this special permission.
But in 2020, BTS decided to wait before joining the army until they were 30. This was because the South Korean government changed the rules, allowing famous K-pop singers to wait until they are 30 to join.
In 2022, many people talked a lot about if BTS members should do military service. But then, in October 2022, their company said that all seven members would do it.
