Chris Brown, a singer who won a Grammy, was accused of hitting a music producer in a London club in 2023, police said on Thursday in England.

Brown, who is 36 years old, was arrested at a hotel in Manchester and is accused of hurting someone badly.

The Sun newspaper said that Abe Diaw, a producer, told them he was in hospital after Brown hit him for no reason. This happened at the Tape nightclub in London in February 2023. Brown was visiting the UK for a tour then.

A newspaper said they knew Brown was in the U.K. on Wednesday. They called the police to see if he was arrested. The newspaper said police officers went to Manchester and arrested him.

Someone from Brown's company didn't answer The Associated Press's question right away.

Brown is in police custody and will go to court in Manchester on Friday morning.

Brown, also known as Breezy, became famous as a young singer in 2005 and has made many popular songs since then, like “Run It,” “Kiss Kiss,” and “Without You.”
