Emily Ratajkowski talked about Blue Origin's space trip for women. She said it is not a big success.
The model and actress shared her ideas on TikTok on Monday. She did this after six women, including Katy Perry and Lauren Sánchez, went into space on Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin rocket.
She said, "That space trip this morning was not good. It was very strange. They say they care about the Earth, but they go to space in a ship from a company that is hurting the planet. Look at the world now, and think about how many things were used to send these women to space. Why? What was the reason? And then to act like... I feel bad. Really, I feel bad."
Olivia Munn also expressed doubts about the recent space expedition, questioning its purpose. She specifically asked, "Why are you going to space? There are many more important things happening in the world right now."
On Tuesday, the actress from 'We Are Your Friends' went back to TikTok to talk more about the Blue Origin trip. Three other women were also on the trip: a film producer, a former NASA scientist, and a research scientist. It was the 11th time people had gone on this rocket.
She said the space trip might look like progress because it includes women and people of color, which is new in science and politics. But she said a very rich man who became rich in a bad way is taking his fiancée and some other famous women to space for fun. She thinks this is not real progress.
She said, "It shows that a few rich people are in charge, and they want to go to space for a new life. But most people on Earth are just trying to pay for their homes or buy food for their children."
Ratajkowski agreed with someone who said, 'Having advantages is not an achievement.' She also said, 'Using people is not an achievement. And using the advantages you got from using the Earth, its resources, and people, to do something like go to space for 11 minutes, is definitely not an achievement.'
"That's why it feels like The Hunger Games," she said. "Because I think we need to know what real progress is, and what happened yesterday was not like that."
Sánchez and King talked about the criticism after the trip on Monday. King said, "I think people who criticize don't really understand this. We all heard it and talked about it." King also asked critics to try to understand more about what the flight means for some people.
Sánchez said he wants people who criticize Blue Origin to visit. He wants them to see the thousands of workers there. These workers don't just do their jobs; they care deeply about this spaceship. They really like their work and the company's goal. It is very important to them.
