A group of states and the District of Columbia are suing 23andMe, a company that tests DNA. They want to stop the company from selling people's personal DNA information without their permission. This legal action happened because another company wants to buy 23andMe, which is having financial problems. An official said that personal information, like DNA and health records, should not be sold unless each person gives clear permission. 23andMe started in 2006 and helps people find out about their family history using their spit. But the company has not made much money since 2021. In March, they fired many workers and asked for legal protection because they had money problems. Another company wants to buy 23andMe for $256 million and has promised to follow privacy rules. Someone independent will check the sale to see how it might affect people's privacy.
