Warner Bros. Discovery plans to divide its cable TV business from its streaming service, creating two separate companies. This is happening because more people are canceling their cable subscriptions. The streaming and studios company will include HBO, Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. movies, and DC Studios. The cable company will have CNN, TNT Sports in the U.S., Discovery, and popular free TV channels in Europe. It will also offer online services like Discovery+ and Bleacher Report. David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, will lead the streaming and studios company. Gunnar Wiedenfels, the CFO, will become the CEO of the cable company, called Global Networks. They expect this separation to be finished by the middle of next year, if the board approves it. This change is happening because the cable TV industry is facing more challenges from streaming services and other internet plans.
