President Trump's tax plan is getting a lot of criticism because many people are worried it will greatly increase the national debt. People who criticize it, like Republican senators, global investors, voters, and Elon Musk, are concerned that the plan might not reduce the debt as much as promised. The White House disagrees, saying that the tax and spending cuts, which are expected to add over $5 trillion to the national debt in the next ten years, will help the economy grow and make the debt smaller compared to the whole economy. However, most economists think the plan won't create enough growth to make up for the increased debt. Also, these tax and spending cuts are set to finish in 2028, which could cause problems for future lawmakers. While the White House is depending on money from tariffs to pay for the extra debt, recent court decisions have made this idea seem less likely to work.
