Effective Monday, Starbucks implemented stringent new sartorial strictures governing under-apron attire for baristas, mandating that employees in both corporate-owned and licensed stores across the United States and Canada adhere to a uniform consisting of a plain black shirt and khaki, black, or blue denim trousers.

The previous dress code afforded baristas a broader palette of dark hues and patterned shirts; however, Starbucks posited that the revised regulations would foreground their signature green aprons, fostering a cohesive brand identity and, concomitantly, a more convivial and familiar ambiance for patrons.

Conversely, Starbucks Workers United, the union representing employees in 570 of Starbucks' 10,000 US corporate-owned stores, posited that the dress code was intrinsically subject to collective bargaining, a stance predicated on its interpretation of extant labor agreements and the implied rights of its members.
