A company stopped selling special stones connected to Buddha. India said they should not sell them.
The stones were found with old things from the Buddha in India in 1898. They are very old, from about 240-200 BC.
But India's government said stop the sale now.
The group wrote to Sotheby's Hong Kong on Monday. The group said the auction has special Buddhist things. These things belong to India and all Buddhists. The group wants the things back in India. They also want Sotheby's and Chris Peppé to say sorry.
Peppé's great-grandfather was British William Peppé. He found the old relics.
India said they would go to court if the auction house sold the items.
Sotheby's said the sale will happen later. They talked with the Indian government. The people selling the things agreed.
We can talk about this, and we will tell you the news when it is time.
Some pages on the Sotheby's website about the sale were gone on Wednesday.
India's government said on Facebook it stopped the sale.
